Masaru Kohno Professional-J Guitar 1990 Spruce & Brazilian Rosewood 650mm in Somers Point, New Jersey

Kohno Professional-J Guitar 1990 Spruce & Brazilian Rosewood 650mm string length. Up for sale is a 1990 Masaru Kohno Professional J Guitar. Based on my experience, these Masaru Kohno Professional J guitars are quite difficult to come by. I do not know why that is. You can find plenty of the newer ones that were built by his nephew after  Masaru Kohno passed away. Those guitars might say Sakurai Kono Professional J, or Masaki Sakurai Professional J, but the  Masaru Kohno Professional J Guitars seem to be quite difficult to find for sale. This guitar has a spruce soundboard and Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. (The J stands for Jacaranda which is Spanish for Brazilian rosewood.) It also has an ebony fingerboard. The guitar is in overall very good condition. It is structurally sound with no cracks or repairs and the playability is very comfortable. It also sounds great! It does have some issues as you would expect for a guitar that is over 30 years old. I will try to clarify these issues in the description and pictures. For the most part, it has the usual playing wear you would expect. There are also a few specific things that I should mention. There is a scratch that is quite noticeable on the soundboard near the sixth string and the rosette. The scratch appears to only penetrate the finish. There is also what appears to be a nick in the finish on the back of the guitar. It has a white appearance and is less than half the diameter of a pencil eraser. There is a wear mark on the back of the neck behind the first fret. It looks like someone played this guitar quite a bit at the first position and the thumb left a mark where it makes contact with the back of the neck. The frets have noticeable wear on the first and second strings up to the 7th fret and on the third string up to the 5th fret. There is very little wear on the frets for the other strings. Despite the wear mentioned above, the playability is comfortable and easy. The intonation also is good. The action is set at 3.5mm at the 6th string and 2.5mm for the 1st string, both at the 12th fret. The nut is only 50 mm wide and the string length is 650mm. I have tried to illustrate these issues in the pictures provided. Besides the above mentioned issues, the guitar has the type of playing wear you would expect to see on a guitar of this age. Nothing very noticeable. The best thing about this guitar is that it sounds great! It has a sound that is unique to Kohno guitars. It has a very clear spruce type of sound but there is also something very special about a Kohno Spruce sound. Very balanced and firm across all strings and ranges and a very polished, refined sound. It has a strong, robust voice with excellent projection and clarity with a punchy quality, especially from the treble strings. I normally associate a clear punchy spruce sound with a guitar that is too bright for my liking but somehow Kohno guitars are able to have these qualities and also have a beautiful warm tone with excellent sustain. It's no surprise that the great luthier, Robert Ruck had a Kohno guitar he practiced with daily. I have never found another classical guitar by any builder that has all of these qualities at the same time. This guitar has a singing quality that is quite inspiring! The quality of the woods used for this guitar is also inspiring. A beautiful piece of spruce for the soundboard and dark colored Brazilian Rosewood for the back and sides that is quite amazing in appearance. It has the usual double ebony strips in the neck for structural stability. The tuning machines are in excellent condition and have an exceptionally smooth feel to them. I will ship the guitar in a hard shell case.I will make a recording of this guitar and post the link as soon as it is finished. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions and thanks for looking! When you purchase from me you can trust that you are dealing with a well establish business that offers musical instrument instruction and performing/recording services to many local people in this area.
